Theme:
The story has told us a lot. First of all, what can help us overcome difficulties in our daily lives is not anything else but ourselves--our strong will and rich experience. It is obvious that there existed misunderstanding and precaution between the peoples in the northern part of Canada, no matter the Crees, the deer eaters or the Eskimos. But we think it is the lack of communication and understanding that led to the result. In fact, all the peoples there were so kind that they would always try their best to help their imagined enemies out of trouble. So the writer just wanted to remind us that communication and understanding each other can help the whole world in perfect harmony and peace.
Canadian culture:
1.It is obvious that in the novel, the people in the northern part of Canada lives a hard life. There they traveled by canoe and started fire in the old way. It seemed that they lived far from the modern civilization.
2.There lived different peoples in the northern part. Compared with the northern part, the peoples lived closer to each other. But there existed misunderstanding and precaution between those peoples. But in fact, all of those people were kind enough to help each other out of trouble.
3.Just like in China, there are also boarding schools in Canada. But as we know, going to boarding school isn't an easy decision. The student will need to adjust to a new environment. The physical separation from the family and old friends can make the decision emotionally difficult. Financial costs are also a consideration. Is it worth it?
4.The different peoples had their own languages. So it is clear that English and French are not the only languages in Canada. In other words, Canada has diverse languages.
